Troupe d' Jour
hal evans, Founding Director
Troupe d’ Jour has served up to 80,000 students and teachers per academic year for nearly three decades. As an educational theatre company, Troupe d’ Jour brings curriculum to life through interactive performances and workshops, providing professional development for educators and business people, too.
This work began with storytelling and interactive Shakespeare presentations in Beaumont ISD in 1993, and since has earned acclaim of educators across the USA and the globe, as well as a place for hal on the Artist-in-Education rosters for Texas, Arkansas, and the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
His professional experience includes roles in a dozen films and TV shows, appearances in more than 120 commercials, and more than 170 directing credits. Thirty of his scripts have been produced on stages from Houston to London. Two volumes of his children's poetry and his award-winning debut YA novel are currently in print (see halevanspoet.com). He has taught on the faculty of colleges and been featured as a guest artist and presenter across the US.
In the Shakespeare’s Globe Centre Project 1999, hal trained with Louis Fantasia, Nesta Jones, Kathryn Hunter, and others in London. Many of the techniques employed in his teaching have developed from that life-changing experience.
More than 1.6 million students, actors, directors, and teachers have furthered their training and careers through the programs hal has founded and directed, including:
Troupe d' Jour (1995-present),
Shakespeare on a Shingle (1993-present)
Midsummer Shakespeare Company (1995-present),
